SimpleFixAI learns your system, hardware, settings, what's running and what's broken. A local AI finds the real problem, fixes it in the right order, and lets you undo everything with one click. No blind fixes. No fake scans. No cloud connection.

You need to approve the fixes
The app is very simple and includes a chat box in the center where you can type the problem you're facing. On the left, the tool includes a small menu for chat, history and settings, so you can just examine previous fixes if you're dealing with a reoccurring issue.
The good news is that the program doesn't automatically change things on your PC. First, it analyzes the problem, then shows a clear plan of what it wants to do or the steps it would take to fix it. After you read its resolution, you can decide if you want to go ahead or not.
Once you approve, the app creates a backup of your current system before it changes anything. If something goes wrong or you don't like the result, you can undo it with one click and go back to how things were before. That said, you should always act with caution, as backup doesn't always mean zero risk. In this case, it just reduces the change of permanent damage.
It runs on a local AI model on your own PC
SimpleFixAI doesn't send your data anywhere and uses a local, small model dubbed Qwen to work, which you should download when suggested to speed things up. While it can't be considered a top-tier powerful AI in the sense of the cloud models, the truth is it doesn't really need to be.
The app already has direct access to your system information, like the hardware, running processes, settings, errors and so on. The AI doesn't need to be extremely smart because it works with real, specific data and doesn't rely on vague, and possibly wrong, descriptions.

On August 29, 2025, Microsoft released the first official preview of Windows 11 version 25H2 (2025 Update) in the Release Preview Channel of the Windows Insider Program. The update is rolling out as an enablement package for devices already running version 24H2.

Desinfec't ist das seit vielen Jahren etablierte Notfallsystem der c't-Redaktion, dass direkt von USB-Stick, USB-SSD oder microSD-Karte startet. Mit den integrierten Scannern spürt man nicht nur Viren auf, sondern macht sie auch unschädlich. Außerdem kann man über das Notfallsystem Daten von einem nicht mehr startenden Windows auf USB-Datenträger kopieren und somit wichtige Dokumente wie eine Abschlussarbeit retten. Unter Umständen ist es sogar möglich, versehentlich gelöschte und somit verloren geglaubte Dateien wiederherzustellen. Für all das braucht man keinen Titel in Raketenwissenschaften. Die Bedienung ähnelt der von Windows und auf dem Desktop sollte sich die meisten sofort zurechtfinden. So kann jeder ohne viel Vorwissen direkt eine Virenjagd starten und eine ganze Reihe typischer Computer-Probleme lösen.

Desinfec't ist ein Live-System auf Basis der Linux-Distribution Ubuntu. Für den Betrieb muss Windows komplett heruntergefahren sein. So kann man aus einem sicheren Abstand auf das inaktive Betriebssystem sehen und ein Virus kann nicht noch mehr Schaden anrichten. Da Desinfec't auf Linux basiert, braucht man keine Angst haben, dass für Windows geschriebene Viren auf das System überspringen. Außerdem versetzt sich Desinfec't nach jedem Neustart in den Werkszustand zurück und es ist nach jedem Reboot wie neu. Als Vorsichtsmaßnahme kann Desinfec't standardmäßig von Windows-HDDs/SSDs nur lesen und nicht darauf schreiben und Daten verändern. Erst wenn Sie etwas verändern wollen, um etwa den aufgespürten Trojaner unschädlich zu machen, schalten Sie den Schreibmodus explizit ein. So brauchen Sie auch keine Angst zu haben, etwas kaputt zu machen.

Desinfec't auf einen USB-Stick zu schreiben: Das kann man direkt unter Windows machen oder man startet Desinfec't und erzeugt aus dem laufenden System einen Stick mit dem Notfallsystem. In beiden Fällen benötigt man zwingend einen USB-Stick mit mindestens 16 GByte Speicherplatz. Von einem Stick läuft das System nicht nur deutlich schneller und verlässlicher, sondern es kann sich auch Sachen wie aktualisierte Virensignaturen oder Desinfec't-Updates merken. Diese Daten landen auf einer beschreibbaren Partition.

Da Desinfec't eine bootfähige Anwendung ist, muss man das Betriebssystem erst herunterfahren und nach dem Neustart in den Bootoptionen des Computers das Medium mit Desinfec't auswählen.

A PowerShell script to download Windows ISOs.

Fido is a PowerShell script that automates downloading official Microsoft Windows retail ISOs (Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11) directly from Microsoft's servers.
It is maintained by Pete Batard, the author of "Rufus".

Fido is a PowerShell script that is primarily designed to be used in "Rufus", but that can also be used in standalone fashion, and whose purpose is to automate access to the official Microsoft Windows retail ISO download links as well as provide convenient access to bootable UEFI Shell images.

This script exists because, while Microsoft does make retail ISO download links freely and publicly available (at least for Windows 8.1 through Windows 11), up until recent releases, most of these links were only available after forcing users to jump through a lot of unwarranted hoops that created an exceedingly counterproductive, if not downright unfriendly, consumer experience, that greatly detracted from what people really want (direct access to ISO downloads).

As to the reason one might want to download Windows retail ISOs, as opposed to the ISOs that are generated by Microsoft's own Media Creation Tool (MCT), this is because using official retail ISOs is currently the only way to assert with absolute certainty that the OS content has not been altered. Indeed, because there only exists a single master for each of them, Microsoft retail ISOs are the only ones you can obtain an official SHA-1 checksum for (

) allowing you to be 100% sure that the image you are using has not been corrupted and is safe to use.

This, in turn, offers assurance that the content you are using to install your OS, which it is indeed critical to validate beforehand if you have the slightest concern about security, does match, bit for bit, the one that Microsoft released.

On the other hand, regardless of the manner in which Microsoft's Media Creation Tool produces its content, because no two MCT ISOs are ever the same (due to MCT always regenerating the ISO content on the fly) it is currently impossible to validate with absolute certainty whether any ISO that was generated by the MCT is safe to use. Especially, unlike what is the case for retail ISOs, it is impossible to tell whether an MCT ISO may have been corrupted after generation.

Hence the need to provide users with a much easier and less restrictive way to access official retail ISOs ...
