Advanced Educational Technology: Research Issues and Future Potential By N. Balacheff (auth.), Thomas T. Liao (eds.)
1996 | 219 Pages | ISBN: 3642646344 | PDF | 6 MB
As we approach the 21st century, the need to better link research findings and practical applications of advanced educational technologies (AET) continues to be a priority. During the five-year NATO Special Programme on AET, many advanced study institutes and research workshops focused on building bridges between researchers in and users of educational technology. The organizing committee of the final capstone workshop which took place in September 1993 also chose to focus on this theme. Three position papers, written by members of the AET advisory committee, provided the background and platform for the two-day workshop that was designed to provide guidelines for future AET research and implementation projects. Nicolas Balacheff kicked off the workshop with a philosophical review of the research issues and future research agendas. Herman Bouma and his colleagues at the Institute for Perception Research discussed implementation issues and problems of technology transfer from research laboratories to educational product development.

Affektivität und Lernen: Ein Brückenschlag zwischen Neurowissenschaften, Kultur- und Kognitionspsychologie
Deutsch | 2024 | ISBN: 3031589785 | 881 Pages | PDF (True) | 10 MB

Martin Mevius, "Agents of Moscow: The Hungarian Communist Party and the Origins of Socialist Patriotism 1941-1953"
English | 2005 | pages: 313 | ISBN: 0199274614 | PDF | 1,9 mb
After 1945, state patriotism of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe was characterized by the widespread use of national symbols. In communist Hungary the party (MKP) widely celebrated national holidays, national heroes, erected national statues, and employed national street names. This 'socialist patriotism' had its origin in the 'national line' of the Comintern, established on Soviet instructions following the German invasion of the Soviet Union. At that time Stalin called the parties of the Comintern to oppose the Germans by issuing the call for national liberation. This policy continued after 1945 when, as an aid in the struggle for power, the MKP presented itself as both the 'heir to the traditions of the nations' and the 'only true representative of the interest of the Hungarian people'. Paradoxically however, the Soviet origins of the national line were also one of the main obstacles to its success as the MKP could not put forward national demands if these conflicted with Soviet interests. Martin Mevius' pioneering study reveals that what had started as a tactical measure in 1941 had become the self-image of party and state in 1953 and that the ultimate loyalty to the Soviet Union worked to the detriment of the national party - the MKP never rid itself of the label 'agents of Moscow'.

Many workers already report that they are alienated from their jobs and find their workplaces to be stifling or uninviting and expect that the introduction of new technologies, including AI, will only worsen their organizational culture. This book outlines the need for a humane and responsible approach to technology, so that employees are not further disengaged from the workplace. This shift in approach should mean that when AI is introduced into an organization, workers have a central role in the design, implementation, and evaluation of this technology. Computer technology can thus promote human flourishing instead of contributing to alienation and security in workplaces.

AIX UNIX: System V.4 Begriffe, Konzepte, Kommandos By Jürgen Gulbins, Karl Obermayr (auth.)
1996 | 596 Pages | ISBN: 354061608X | PDF | 19 MB

Algebra of Communicating Processes: Proceedings of ACP94, the First Workshop on the Algebra of Communicating Processes, Utrecht, The Netherlands, 16-17 May 1994 By J. A. Bergstra, J. W. Klop (auth.), A. Ponse PhD, C. Verhoef PhD, S. F. M. van Vlijmen Drs. (eds.)
1995 | 359 Pages | ISBN: 3540199098 | PDF | 28 MB
ACP, the Algebra of Communicating Processes, is an algebraic approach to the study of concurrent processes, initiated by Jan Bergstra and Jan Will em Klop in the early eighties. These proceedings comprise the contributions to ACP94, the first workshop devoted to ACP. The work shop was held at Utrecht University, 16-17 May 1994. These proceedings are meant to provide an overview of current research in the area of ACP. They contain fifteen contributions. The first one is a classical paper on ACP by J.A. Bergstra and J.W. Klop: The Algebra of Recursively Defined Processes and the Algebra of Regular Processes, Report IW 235/83, Mathematical Centre, Amsterdam, 1983. It serves as an introduction to the remainder of the proceedings and, indeed, as a general introduction to ACP. An extended abstract of this paper is published under the same title in the ICALP' 84 proceedings. Of the re maining contributions, three were submitted by the invited speakers and the others were selected by the programme committee. As for the presentations, Jos Baeten, Rob van Glabbeek, Jan Friso Groote, and Frits Vaandrager were each invited to deliver a lecture. A paper relating to Frits Vaandrager's lecture has already been submitted for publication elsewhere and is not, therefore, included in these pro ceedings. Gabriel Ciobanu, one of our guests, gave an impression of his work in an extra lecture. Furthermore, ten presentations were given on the basis of selected papers.
