Approximate Fixed Points of Nonexpansive Mappings
English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031707095 | 539 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 41 MB
Fixed point theory of nonlinear operators has been a rapidly growing area of research and plays an important role in the study of variational inequalities, monotone operators, feasibility problems, and optimization theory, to name just several. This book discusses iteration processes associated with a given nonlinear mapping which generate its approximate fixed point and in some cases converge to a fixed point of the mapping. Various classes of nonlinear single-valued and set-valued mappings are considered along with iteration processes under the presence of computational errors. Of particular interest to mathematicians working in fixed point theory and nonlinear analysis, the added value for the reader are the solutions presented to a number of difficult problems in the fixed point theory which have important applications.

Arbitration Practice in Construction Contracts, Fifth Edition By Douglas A. Stephenson(auth.)
2001 | 291 Pages | ISBN: 0632057416 | PDF | 5 MB
Since it came into force on 31 January 1997 the Arbitration Act 1996 has generally been welcomed by users and practitioners in the construction industry. It has fulfilled expectations that it would provide a user-friendly and practical basis of resolving disputes arising from construction contracts in a fair, expeditious and economical way. In doing so it has generated a modest volume of case law that has demonstrated the excellence of the Act's provisions and its drafting. Since the Fourth Edition of this book appeared in 1997 the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 with its Scheme for Construction Contracts Regulations 1998 have come into force, as have the Civil Procedure Rules 1998, both of which affect the resolution of disputes arising from construction contracts. Case law has arisen from the Construction Act, and from the House of Lords' judgment in the Beaufort Developments case, overturning the much-criticised judgment of the Court of Appeal in Crouch. In this Fifth Edition of an established text the author deals with each stage of an arbitration, explaining in practical terms the procedures to be adopted in avoiding disputes and in dealing with them efficiently when they do arise. It features over 20 specimen arbitration documents and includes the full text of the Act. It also covers several important developments in case law affecting construction arbitrations, and refers to the introduction and case law arising from adjudication under the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.Content: Chapter 1 Introduction (pages 1-13): Chapter 2 Arbitration Agreements (pages 14-38): Chapter 3 Appointment of the Arbitrator (pages 39-44): Chapter 4 Jurisdiction of the Arbitrator (pages 45-54): Chapter 5 The Preliminaries (pages 55-77): Chapter 6 Evidence (pages 78-85): Chapter 7 The Hearing (pages 86-93): Chapter 8 The Award (pages 94-110): Chapter 9 Costs (pages 111-119): Chapter 10 Powers of the Court in Relation to the Award (pages 120-124): Chapter 11 Dispute Avoidance and Management (pages 125-143):

Arming the World: American Gun-Makers in the Gilded Age
by Geoffrey S. Stewart
English | 2024 | ISBN: 1493078585 | 368 Pages | True ePUB | 1.14 MB

Arming the World tells the story of the American small arms industry from the early 1800's through the post-Civil War era. Almost from the beginning, the United States produced arms in new, and radically different, ways, relying upon machinery to mass produce guns when others still made them by hand. Leveraging their technological advantage, American gun-makers produced guns with interchangeable parts and perfected new types of small arms, ranging from revolvers to repeating rifles.
The federal government's staggering purchases of arms during the Civil War stimulated the development of fast-firing breech-loading rifles and metal-cased ammunition. When, in 1865, it became clear that every country in the world had re-equip itself with modern weapons, the Americans had an overwhelming head start. Salesmen from Remington, Winchester, Colt and Smith & Wesson -- and from lesser-known firms, too - traveled the world marketing their guns, dominating - or, perhaps, even inventing - the international arms business. American gun-makers sold rifles and side-arms by the millions and cartridges by the billions to great powers, restive colonies and fading empires alike. Adding a new element to the unstable global balance of power, American gun-makers affected the course of history.

Amanda Clinton, "Assessing Bilingual Children in Context: An Integrated Approach "
English | ISBN:
1433815656 | 2013 | 325 pages | PDF | 4 MB

Children who are learning a second language and are referred for psychological assessment frequently present with unique personal backgrounds. They may have relocated from a Syrian refugee camp, immigrated from Mexico to escape poverty, or grown up navigating two languages spoken by biracial parents. Their individual histories can have long-term effects on learning, behavior, and social-emotional development.
This book was written to inform clinicians and educators working with youth who demonstrate variability in knowledge and fluency in either one or both of their two languages. It explores the influence of experiences like poverty and immigration on the biological processes of second-language acquisition, looks at the effects of cross-language transfer, discusses international and multicultural complexities critical to understanding the bilingual child, and examines the biological and neurological bases of second-language acquisition.
The authors expertly synthesize this material, offering a set of guidelines for assessment. In addition to case studies that illustrate the application of the principles discussed, they provide concise graphic tools, such as checklists and charts, to provide readers with a succinct point of reference.
This is not a book about tests. Rather, it is a book about children and the complexity of evaluating their functioning when they are acquiring a second language, written for the professionals who wish to help by gaining a complete understanding of the contexts that shape them.

Atmospheres in the Solar System: Comparative Aeronomy By
2002 | 381 Pages | ISBN: 0875909892 | PDF | 34 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series.Atmospheres are crucial components of our universe. They are the only observable regions of stars and giant planets, both within and beyond our solar system. Some terrestrial-size bodies (Venus, Earth, Mars, Titan and Triton) have permanent atmospheres while others (e.g., Mercury, Moon, Io, and Europa) have tenuous gaseous envelopes that change daily. Comets are tiny bodies by planetary yardsticks, but their atmospheres can be the largest visible objects in the night sky. Atmospheric science strives to understand how such a diverse set of atmospheres form, evolve, and disappear.Content:

Atmospheric Science Across the Stratopause By
2000 | 342 Pages | ISBN: 0875909817 | PDF | 47 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series. In recent years, two separate geophysical research cultures have developed in the United States to study the atmosphere: one of space scientists, who focus on the mesosphere, thermosphere and ionosphere, and the other of atmospheric scientists, who focus on the troposphere and stratosphere. The boundary between these two research domains roughly coincides with the stratopause (50 km). While the division ofthe atmosphere into layers and boundaries serves as a useful way to characterize the various chemical and dynamical processes that distinguish these layers, these boundaries are not impermeable. To understand such critical issues as global change, geophysicists must study the atmosphere as an integrated system. The purpose of this monograph is to highlight those studies that consider the coupling of these two regions and thus bring together two scientific specialties (atmospheric science and space science) that are often considered separately.Content:

ATTD 2011 Yearbook: Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes, Third Edition By
2012 | 296 Pages | ISBN: 1118279298 | PDF | 2 MB
The traditional agents for controlling the levels of glucose in the blood remain important therapies but they have their downside from the point of view of tolerability and side effects. Moreover, they appear not to be able to counter the natural history deterioration of the disease in terms of the onset of diabetic-related complications. Recent years have seen an influx of new treatment therapies and technologies aimed at achieving better glycaemic control for diabetic patients such as liraglutide (Novo Nordisk) and saxagliptin (BMS/Astra-Zeneca) and insulin pumps, away from the more traditional therapies used (classic insulin therapy, oral hypoglycaemics). This book outlines these new technologies/treatments by collating the best journal articles published in the last year, and providing expert analysis on each one. Advanced Technologies and Treatment for Diabetes 3E brings together and critically analyses the last year's most important articles published in the world's leading medical journals on this topic. Chapters are focused on the most current hot topic areas such as: new methods of insulin delivery; internet and IT use in treatment of diabetes; bariatric surgery & diabetes; and immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes. Each chapter includes abstracts of the published articles, scientific conclusions made, as well as annotations and a comments and analysis section from the relevant chapter editor, each of which being a well-known expert in the field. All researchers in the fields of diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism will find this book extremely useful, as will diabetes technology developers, and specialist endocrinologists involved with the care of diabetic patients.Content: Chapter 1 Self?Monitoring of Blood Glucose (pages 1-20): Satish K.
