Anger Treatment for People with Developmental Disabilities: A Theory, Evidence and Manual Based Approach By John L. Taylor, Raymond W. Novaco(auth.)
2005 | 269 Pages | ISBN: 0470870044 | PDF | 3 MB
Anger and aggression are prevalent problems among people with developmental disabilities and constitute primary reasons for them to be admitted and re-admitted to institutions. They are also a key reason for the prescribing of behaviour control and anti-psychotic medication to this client group. Stimulated by growing research in this area, mental health and criminal justice professionals have begun to see the benefits of anger assessment and cognitive-behavioural anger treatment for people with developmental disabilities. There is no prior text to guide anger treatment provision to this client group. This text presents a manual-guided cognitive-behavioural anger treatment protocol, grounded in a solid theoretical framework and empirical evidence for its efficacy in clinical practice. The assessment and treatment approach is designed to engage and motivate patients with recurrent and deep-rooted anger problems and their manifestation in serious aggressive behaviour. Accompanying the treatment protocol are a number of worksheets, handouts, and exercise sheets for clinicians and clients that can be accessed online. Content: Chapter 1 Anger and Aggression: Conceptual Background and Historical Perspective (pages 1-14): Chapter 2 Anger and its Dysregulation: A Guiding Framework (pages 15-26): Chapter 3 Anger Treatment Effectiveness (pages 27-33): Chapter 4 Emotional Problems, Aggression, and Psychotherapy for People with Developmental Disabilities (pages 34-42): Chapter 5 Anger Treatment for People with Developmental Disabilities (pages 43-66): Chapter 6 Issues in Anger Assessment and Treatment Evaluation (pages 67-85): Chapter 7 Development, Delivery and Maintenance of a Cognitive?Behavioural Anger Treatment Protocol for People with Developmental Disabilities (pages 86-102): Chapter 8 Anger Treatment Protocol - Preparatory Phase (pages 103-119): Chapter 9 Anger Treatment Protocol - Treatment Phase (pages 120-152): Chapter 10 Therapist Training, Supervision, and Process Considerations (pages 153-166): Bruce T. Animal Behavior: An Introduction to Behavioral Mechanisms, Development, and Ecology By Mark Ridley
1995 | 294 Pages | ISBN: 0865423903 | PDF | 12 MB
This classic textbook is a concise introductory guide to the subject of animal behavior. The book is organized by first building the four-cornered foundations of the subject, then moving higher. In an extremely well-organized progression, the student is lead to an understanding of the essential topics, explained in logical self-contained units. Each chapter ends with suggestions for further reading. In this second edition, the coverage of mechanisms of behavior is much expanded, as is the material on evolution and natural selection. The chapter on development includes much of the new work on learning and memory, especially song-learning in birds. Indeed throughout the book, examples are drawn from recent ground-breaking research.

Antarctic Peninsula Climate Variability: Historical and Paleoenvironmental Perspectives By
2003 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 0875909736 | PDF | 11 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Antarctic Research Series. The Antarctic Peninsula region represents our best natural laboratory to investigate how earth's major climate systems interact and how such systems respond to rapid regional warming. The scale of environmental changes now taking place across the region is large and their pace rapid but the subsystems involved are still small enough to observe and accurately document cause and affect mechanisms. For example, clarification of ice shelf stability via the Larsen Ice Shelf is vital to understanding the entire Antarctic Ice Sheet, its climate evolution, and its response to and control of sea level. By encompassing the broadest range of interdisciplinary studies, this volume provides the global change research and educational communities a framework in which to advance our knowledge of the causes behind regional warming, the dramatic glacial and ecological responses, and the potential uniqueness of the event within the region's paleoclimate record. The volume also serves as a vital resource for public policy and governmental funding agencies as well as a means to educate the large number of ecotourists that visit the region each austral summer.Content:

Anteaesthetics: Black Aesthesis and the Critique of Form (Inventions: Black Philosophy, Politics, Aesthetics) by Rizvana Bradley
English | October 24th, 2023 | ISBN: 1503637131 | 406 pages | True EPUB | 40.58 MB
In Anteaesthetics, Rizvana Bradley begins from the proposition that blackness cannot be represented in modernity's aesthetic regime, but is nevertheless foundational to every representation. Troubling the idea that the aesthetic is sheltered from the antiblack terror that lies just beyond its sanctuary, Bradley insists that blackness cannot make a home within the aesthetic, yet is held as its threshold and aporia. The book problematizes the phenomenological and ontological conceits that underwrite the visual, sensual, and abstract logics of modernity.

Moving across multiple histories and geographies, artistic mediums and forms, from nineteenth-century painting and early cinema, to the contemporary text-based works, video installations, and digital art of Glenn Ligon, Mickalene Thomas, and Sondra Perry, Bradley inaugurates a new method for interpretation-an ante-formalism which demonstrates how black art engages in the recursive deconstruction of the aesthetic forms that remain foundational to modernity. Foregrounding the negativity of black art, Bradley shows how each of these artists disclose the racialized contours of the body, form, and medium, even interrogating the form that is the world itself. Drawing from black critical theory, Continental philosophy, film and media studies, art history, and black feminist thought, Bradley explores artistic practices that inhabit the negative underside of form. Ultimately, Anteaesthetics asks us to think philosophically with black art, and with the philosophical invention black art necessarily undertakes.

Archean Geodynamics and Environments By
2006 | 321 Pages | ISBN: 0875904297 | PDF | 33 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series. The Archean Eon represents 1.3 Gyr of Earth's distant past, from about 3.8 Ga to 2.5 Ga?nearly one third of our planet's history. It was during the Archean that a regime of global geodynamics was established, resulting in the formation and recycling of the first lithosphere, as well as the formation, growth, deformation, differentiation, emergence, and erosion of continents. By the end of the Archean, Earth had reached a geodynamic regime dominated by plate tectonic processes. The consequent environments, at and near Earth's surface, included the different niches within which early life forms evolved. It is to the Archean evolution of Earth that we now look to better understand many of the processes that shaped the planet, as we know it.Content:

Architecture in the Age of Human-Computer Interaction
by Eric Sauda, Alireza Karduni, Donna Lanclos

English | 2025 | ISBN: 103242592X | 172 pages | True PDF EPUB | 65.17 MB

This book investigates the spaces where architecture and computer science share a common set of assumptions and goals, using methods and objectives from architecture, ethnography, and human-computer interaction (HCI). Architecture and HCI depend on and borrow from each other, and even share some vocabulary in their divergent disciplinary agendas. The authors here unpack the past, present, and potential futures of architecture and the user interface, employing the lens of ethnography and ethnographic practices to launch this exciting cross-disciplinary inquiry. The goal is the creation of an interface that is able to connect the wide range of embodied architectural space, the modes of interaction afforded by computation, and the social process of creating meaningful places. This will be of great interest to upper-level students and academics in the fields of architecture, human-computer interaction, and ethnography.

Arctic Oceanography: Marginal Ice Zones and Continental Shelves By Walker O. Smith Jr., Jacqueline M. Grebmeier
1995 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0875902634 | PDF | 8 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Coastal and Estuarine Studies, Volume 49.The Arctic Ocean is the least understood ocean on Earth, and yet its importance to the world's oceans and climate is immense. For example, it has been suggested that the Arctic is the region most likely to be affected by increased atmospheric temperatures which might occur as a result of anthropogenic releases of greenhouse gases. It also plays a critical role in global oceanic circulation, in that it modulates the formation of deep water in the North Atlantic via ice export. Despite its pivotal role in global processes, the Arctic remains poorly understood. This volume is an attempt to highlight and synthesize some of the recent advances in our knowledge of Arctic oceanography and includes topics that will interest physical, biological, chemical, and geological oceanographers as well as atmospheric scientists. That the Arctic is so poorly known relative to other oceans is not surprising. It is largely ice-covered throughout the year, with only some of its continental shelves becoming ice?]free in summer. Its ice is mostly multi?]year and very thick, making penetration into the deeper portions impossible except by the most powerful ice?]breakers. However, in recent years new technologies have been applied to the Arctic, and our understanding of the physical, chemical, biological and geological processes which occur within it is rapidly increasing. Satellite sensors observe the Arctic continually, allowing us to follow ice circulation, storms, and openings in the pack ice that had never been observed previously. Moorings, ships and buoys now can withstand many of the rigors of the Arctic, and observations of the water column and seabed are becoming more common. Finally, because of its importance to global processes, studies of the Arctic are attracting scientists not only from Arctic nations but from nations around the world. Arctic oceanography truly has become an international effort.

Atlantic Rifts and Continental Margins By
2000 | 353 Pages | ISBN: 0875900984 | PDF | 24 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series.Atlantic Rifts and Continental Margins fills a major information gap in the seismic documentation of the passive margins of the Atlantic basin. New techniques have stimulated recent improvements in conceptual models that integrate geological and geophysical methods for interpreting deep water regions. Experts discuss a full spectrum of topics, including the influence of Precambrian compressional tectonics heritage on the formation of continental margins, regional gravity and magnetics, detailed seismic interpretation, and cutting-edge concepts and techniques. This volume will be of interest both to academic geoscientists working in basin analysis and to those engaged in petroleum exploration.Content:

Atmospheric Halos and the Search for Angle X By Walter Tape, Jarmo Moilanen(auth.)
2006 | 236 Pages | ISBN: 087590727X | PDF | 51 MB
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Special Publications Series.Atmospheric halos are visible phenomena of much beauty and fascination. From our earliest known records, dating from the Sumerian-Babylonian culture of 4-5,000 years ago, to modern researchers, halos have kept us looking skyward. Caused by light refracted through ice crystals floating in the atmosphere, they can appear at nearly any time and place. What do the ice crystals look like, especially those that make the exotic "odd radius" halos? What is the value of the elusive angle x, so critical to determining the shapes of these crystals? What halo displays do we understand well and what displays do we not understand at all? This book responds to such questions, and more, with a multifaceted view of halo science. Experts and novices alike will find this book the definitive resource on the subject. Features include:The "how to" in halo observation and photographyCarefully analyzed photos of rare halo displays and pyramidal ice crystalsThe early history of halo scienceElegant new explanations of how halos formAuthoritative discussion of odd radius halosWe invite you to gaze up and discover the world of halos.Content: Chapter 1 Introduction (pages 1-8): Chapter 2 Ice Crystal Gallery (pages 9-20): Chapter 3 The Beginnings of Halo Science (pages 21-32): Chapter 4 How Halos Form (pages 33-42): Chapter 5 Halo Simulations (pages 43-50): Chapter 6 Halos From Prismatic Crystals (pages 51-64): Chapter 7 Odd Radius Halos are Real (pages 65-70): Chapter 8 Odd Radius Circular Halos (pages 71-89): Chapter 9 Some Crystallography (pages 91-100): Chapter 10 Pyramidal Ice Crystals (pages 101-112): Chapter 11 The Search for Angle x (pages 113-128): Chapter 12 Refraction Halos and Wedge Angle (pages 129-132): Chapter 13 The Spin Vector (pages 133-136): Chapter 14 A User's Guide to Halo Poles (pages 137-144): Chapter 15 Odd Radius Plate Arcs (pages 145-164): Chapter 16 Odd Radius Column Arcs (pages 165-178): Chapter 17 Odd Radius Parry Arcs (pages 179-182): Chapter 18 Other Wedge Angles? English | ISBN: 1433815699 | 2013 | 183 pages | PDF | 4 MB
When faced with clients who challenge one's boundaries of competence it is important to be able to assist the individual; however, it is equally important to know when one's skills and background may be limited and when outside consultation or expertise is required.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is aimed at helping clinicians screen for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), treat higher functioning individuals with ASD, and assist family members. It surveys historical views of the disorder, current diagnostic criteria, co-occurring conditions, etiology, epidemiology, assessment, treatment for affected individuals, and interventions for family members.
Author V. Mark Durand uses clinical cases throughout the chapters to give readers consistent examples of the most commonly seen forms of autism and to illustrate the various facets of working with such patients.
