Numerical Modeling: Prediction of Ship Maneuvering and Hydrodynamics During Inland Waterway Transport

In this work, ship hydrodynamics during inland waterway transport and ship maneuvering are investigated using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) based on OpenFoam. Validation and verification studies are carried out for the mesh convergence, time step convergence, sensitivity to turbulence models and dynamic mesh techniques. A quaternion-based 6DoF motion solver is implemented for the trim and sinkage predictions. Environmental effects on several inland vessels (convoy 1, convoy 2, tanker) are studied using the validated numerical models. Three important aspects, the confinement effect of the waterway, head-on encounter, and ship-bridge pile interaction are simulated. The testing conditions cover a wide range, including various channel dimensions, waterdepths, ship draughts and speeds. The ship resistance, wave pattern, Kelvin angle and wave elevation at specific positions are investigated as functions of these parameters. Ship maneuvering is investigated using virtual captive model tests based on the MMG (Mathematical Maneuvering Group) model. An actuator disk is implemented to replace the real propeller. Open water test, rudder force test, OTT (Oblique Towing Tank test) and CMT (Circular Motion Test) of a KVLCC2 model are carried out to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients of the propeller, rudder and ship hull. Using the obtained coefficients, system-based maneuvering simulations are carried out and validated using the free running test data. These studies reproduce real ship tests and thus prove the validity of our numerical models. As a result, the numerical solver is promising in ship hydrodynamics and marine engineering simulations.

Next is the Thunderbolt Variants chapter which takes a closer look at each version of the P-47 in more detail. All of the production variants, as well as the experimental Thunderbolts, are included in this informative chapter. Line drawings that point out important changes and enhancements made to the production variants were drawn specifically for Detail & Scale by Lloyd S. Jones.
The primary focus of the Detail & Scale Series of aviation publications is on the details of the aircraft. The Thunderbolt Details chapter has ten different sections that include 170 detail photographs that cover the P-47 in incredible detail, both inside and out and from the propeller hub to the position light on the trailing edge of the rudder. The large majority of these photographs are in color, and most were taken by the author specifically for the original book and for this publication to ensure that every possible detail would be illustrated. No less than ten different P-47s were photographed.
As with all Detail & Scale Series books, our Modelers Section provides coverage of the scale model kits of the Thunderbolt. In the quarter-century since our original book on the Jug was published, a considerable number of new kits have been released, and reviews of these have been added to the Modeler Section. Kits in all popular standard modeling scales from 1/144th through 1/24th scales are included.
P-47 Thunderbolt in Detail & Scale has more than 260 photographs, over 190 of which are in color, 11 drawings, and nine color profiles.

This volume is a tribute to the career of Professor Olivier Rouault who has conducted extensive research in the fields of both Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern archaeology. The book is composed of 25 papers written by his colleagues, friends and former students from Belgium, France, Great Britain, Italy, Israel, Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Syria and the United States. The contributions presented here combine archaeological, iconographic and Assyriological studies from the Neolithic to the 1st millennium BC, covering whole of Mesopotamia and regions of Anatolia and the Levant. Nine papers deal with the data of Terqa, Mari and Qasr Shemamok, sites close to Professor Olivier Rouault's main field of research. He published cuneiform tablets from Mari and Terqa and worked as a director of archaeological missions at Terqa and Qasr Shemamok. The book is divided into six main topics: Palace and Administration, Temples and Cults, Families and Societies, Literatures and Historiography, Representation and Symbolic Aspects, Cultural Markers and Stratigraphy - all the topics that attracted Professor Olivier Rouault during his fruitful career. More intimate texts recounting memories of moments shared with Olivier punctuate the reading of these contributions.
