Katharina Pyschny, "Transforming Authority: Concepts of Leadership in Prophetic and Chronistic Literature "
English | ISBN: 3110646315 | 2021 | 330 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
Human leadership is a multifaceted topic in the Hebrew Bible from a synchronic as well as diachronic perspective. A large range of distributions emerges from the successive sharpening or modification of different aspects of leadership. While some of them are combined to a complex figuration of leadership, others remain reserved for certain individuals. Furthermore, it can be considered a consensus within scholarly debate, that concepts of leadership have a certain connection to the history of ancient Israel which is, though, hard to ascertain. Following a previous volume that focused on the Pentateuch and the Former Prophets (BZAW 507), this volume deals with different concepts of leadership in selected Prophetic (Hag/Zech; Jer) and Chronistic literature Ezr/Neh; Chr). They are examined in a literary, (religious-/tradition-) historical and theological perspective. Special emphasis is given to phenomena of transforming authority and leadership claims in exilic/post-exilic times. Hence, the volume contributes to biblical theology and sheds new light on the redaction/reception history of the texts. Not least, it provides valuable insights into the history of religious and/or political "authorities" in Israel and Early Judaism(s).

Transforming Europe in the Images of the World, 1110-1500: Fuzzy Geographies
by Natalia Petrovskaia
English | 2025 | ISBN: 904856316X | 208 Pages | PDF | 1.87 MB

This is the first book to examine the wide and important geographical tradition that arose from the description of the world in the Imago mundi - a medieval encyclopedic bestseller, almost unrivalled in popularity from its composition in the 1110s well into the age of print. The Imago mundi was translated into most European vernaculars and extracts from it were adapted into vernacular works ranging from encyclopedias to literary fiction, verse and prose. This is the first study to examine this tradition as a unified whole. It focuses in particular on the permutations undergone by the depiction of the region designated as 'Europe' in the original text and its later adaptations. The book demonstrates the incredible flexibility of the original text and how this enabled the transformation of this spatial description to suit the linguistic, political and cultural needs of vernacular adaptations.

Transient and Permanent Error Control for Networks-on-Chip by Qiaoyan Yu , Paul Ampadu
English | PDF (True) | 2012 | 166 Pages | ISBN : 1461409616 | 6.2 MB
This book addresses reliability and energy efficiency of on-chip networks using cooperative error control. It describes an efficient way to construct an adaptive error control codec capable of tracking noise conditions and adjusting the error correction strength at runtime. Methods are also presented to tackle joint transient and permanent error correction, exploiting the redundant resources already available on-chip. A parallel and flexible network simulator is also introduced, which facilitates examining the impact of various error control methods on network-on-chip performance.

Translating and Transmediating Children's Literature by Anna Kérchy
English | EPUB | 2020 | 352 Pages | ISBN : 3030525260 | 96.6 MB
From Struwwelpeter to Peter Rabbit, from Alice to Bilbo―this collection of essays shows how the classics of children's literature have been transformed across languages, genres, and diverse media forms. This book argues that translation regularly involves transmediation―the telling of a story across media and vice versa―and that transmediation is a specific form of translation. Beyond the classic examples, the book also takes the reader on a worldwide tour, and examines, among other things, the role of Soviet science fiction in North Korea, the ethical uses of Lego Star Wars in a Brazilian context, and the history of Latin translation in children's literature. Bringing together scholars from more than a dozen countries and language backgrounds, these cross-disciplinary essays focus on regularly overlooked transmediation practices and terminology, such as book cover art, trans-sensory storytelling, écart, enfreakment, foreignizing domestication, and intra-cultural transformation.

Transmission of Information by Orthogonal Functions by Henning F. Harmuth
English | PDF | 1970 Pages | ISBN : 3642533590 | 23.6 MB
The orthogonality of functions has been exploited in communications since its very beginning. Conscious and extensive use was made of it by KOTEL' NIKOV in theoretical work in 1947. Ten years later a considerable number of people were working in this field rather independently. However, little experimental use could be made of the theo retical results before the arrival of solid state opera tional amplifiers and integrated circuits. A theory of communication based on orthogonal functions could have been published many years ago. However, the only useful examples of orthogonal functions at that time were sine-cosine functions and block pulses, and this made the theory appear to be a complicated way to derive known re sults. It was again the advance of semiconductor techno logy that produced the first really new, useful example of orthogonal functions: the little-known Walsh functions. In this book emphasis is placed on the Walsh functions, since ample literature is available on sine-cosine func tions as well as on block pulses and pulses derived from them.

Transnational Memories and Post-Dicatorship Cinema: Brazil, Chile and Argentina By Tatiana Heise
2024 | 218 Pages | ISBN: 3031470699 | EPUB | 1 MB
This book investigates the role that cinemas in Brazil, Chile and Argentina have played in reconstructing memories of the most recent military dictatorships. These countries have undergone a distinctive post-dictatorship experience marked by unprecedented debates about human rights violations, the silencing of victims and accountability for state crimes. Meanwhile, politically committed filmmakers have created an extensive body of work addressing the dictatorship and its aftermath. This book employs a transnational and comparative approach to examine the strategies that these filmmakers have used to render visible what has remained hidden, to make reappear what has disappeared, and to reinterpret historical actors and events from a contemporary perspective. Through attention to the specific properties of the medium and the socio-historical context in which films have been made, it describes the different cinematic modes of remembering that emerged in response to wider memory frameworks in South America.

Rocío Ortuño Casanova, "Transnational Philippines: Cultural Encounters in Philippine Literature in Spanish"
English | ISBN: 0472133500 | 2024 | 302 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Transnational Philippines: Cultural Encounters in Philippine Literature in Spanish approaches literature that has been forgotten or neglected in studies on other literatures in Spanish due, in part, to the fact that today Spanish is no longer spoken in the Philippines or in Asia. However, isolation has not always been the case, and by omitting Philippine literature in Spanish from the picture of world literatures and Spanish-language literatures, the landscape of these disciplines is incomplete. Transnational Philippines studies how this literary production stemmed from its relationship with other cultures, literature, and arts. It attempts to break this literature's isolation and show how it is part of the broad literary system of literature written in Spanish.

Trauma and Spirituality in Ethnic American Women's Novels: Connected by Invisible Fibers
by Marinella Rodi-Risberg
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031786408 | 267 Pages | True ePUB | 0.49 MB

Trauma and Spirituality in Ethnic American Women's Novels examines a genre of ethnic American women's literature, which the author calls spiritual trauma narratives, that testify to traumas caused by epistemological violence, wreaked by ongoing colonialism, systematic racism, and marginalization grounded in a binary, hierarchical, and supremacist post-Enlightenment epistemology that negates the spiritual knowledge of interconnectivity found in people of color's belief systems. Placing trauma theory in productive conversation with women of color feminist studies, Marinella Rodi-Risberg explores literary texts by Chicana, African American, and Native American authors that engage readers in the protagonists' transformative encounters with ancestral knowledge through symbols, ritual, dreaming, storytelling, and interactions with the natural world. In this way, the author argues, they model a shift in awareness regarding historical and present traumas including slavery, genocide, racial and sexual violence, highlighting the importance of literature as a site of knowledge production and resistance.

Traumas of 1066 in the Literatures of England, Normandy, and Scandinavia
by Erin Michelle Goeres
English | 2024 | ISBN: 250360787X | 292 Pages | True PDF | 3.48 MB

1066 is one of the most well-known dates in English history: but how far do we understand the mental and emotional lives of those who experienced it? In just over a month, England was rocked by two separate invasions, multiple pitched battles, and the deaths of thousands. The repercussions of these traumatic events would echo through the history and literature of northern Europe for centuries to come. Drawing on studies of trauma and cultural memory, this book examines the cultural repercussions of the year 1066 in medieval England, Normandy, and Scandinavia. It explores how writers in all three regions celebrated their common heritage and mourned the wars that brought them into conflict. Bringing together texts from an array of languages, genres, and cultural traditions, this study examines the strategies medieval authors employed to work through the traumas of 1066, narrating its events and experiences in different forms. It explores the ways in which history and memory interacted through multiple generations of writers and readers, and reveals how the field of trauma studies can help us better understand the mental and emotional lives of medieval people.

Traversing the Middle: Ethics, Politics, Religion By Gavin Hyman
2013 | 230 Pages | ISBN: 1610974476 | EPUB | 1 MB
In recent philosophy, theology, and critical theory, postmodern thought has been much criticized on specifically ethical and political grounds. In particular, it has been argued that postmodernism has induced passivity and is impotent in the face of the challenges presented by the hegemonic global market. In response numerous thinkers have called for the "return of the metanarrative" or have insisted on the necessity of the domain of the "universal". In this book, Gavin Hyman accepts the diagnosis, while contesting the cure. Through detailed engagements with the work of Alain Badiou, Slavoj Zizek, and John Milbank--as well as discussions of the work of Simon Critchley, Michael Hardt, and Antonio Negri--Hyman argues that many contemporary thinkers merely invert the problems intrinsic to postmodernism and therefore do not effectively escape them. He argues that the ethical and political are best preserved and perpetuated through the negotiating of an ongoing tension between the domains of the universal, the particular, and the singular. To proceed thus would be to traverse the terrain of the middle--ethically, politically, and religiously.

Treatise on the First Principle (Hackett Classics) by John Duns Scotus, translated by Thomas M. Ward
English | June 3, 2024 | ISBN: 1647921708 | True PDF | 192 pages | 5.3 MB
Seeking what he describes as "the utmost limit of the knowledge our natural reason can achieve . . . concerning the True Existence [that is God]," John Duns Scotus (1265-1308) offers in this treatise one of philosophy's most rigorous and ambitious attempts to deduce God's existence from purely metaphysical theorems. As elucidated by its concise philosophical commentary, Thomas M. Ward's new translation of the Treatise on the First Principle puts a masterpiece of natural theology within reach of a new generation of English-reading students of philosophy.

Trends and Prospects in Pig Genomics and Genetics
by Katarzyna Piórkowska, Katarzyna Ropka-Molik
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3725830061 | 216 Pages | True PDF | 26 MB

Pork is one of the most commonly consumed meats in the world. The domestication of pigs in Europe dates back to 5000 BC, from which the selection over decades has led to a significant reduction in backfat levels and improvements in growth rates. The next step in pig breeding is to use complete information on the DNA sequence, which will enable an understanding of specific genotypes and their underlying biology, as well as identifying genes that may affect resistance to diseases that pose a challenge to the industry. In the present Special Issue, we propose new trends and prospects in pig breeding and genomics, which can be used to solve breeding problems in this species.
