Quantum Theory of Polymers as Solids by János J. Ladik
English | PDF | 1988 | 420 Pages | ISBN : 1468452355 | 32.6 MB
The goal of this monograph is to summarize the different quantum mechanical methods developed in the last 20 years to treat the electronic structure of polymers. Owing to the nature of the problem, these methods consist of a mixture of quantum-chemical and solid-state physical tech niques. The theory described in Part I treats, besides the Hartree-Fock problem, the· electron correlation, and it has also been developed for disordered polymeric systems. Though for obvious reasons the book could not include all the existing calculations, each new method des cribed is illustrated by a few applications, with a discussion of the numerical results obtained. Far more details see the Introduction to Part I. The second part contains the theoretical calculation of different properties of polymers based on the methods systematically introduced in the first part. The properties calculated include the electronic and vibrational spectra of polymers, and the computation of their transport, magnetic, and mechanical properties. In cases where reliable ex perimental data are available, the theoretical results are compared with them.

Quantum Theory of the Chemical Bond by R. Daudel
English | PDF | 1974 | 119 Pages | ISBN : 9027702640 | 10 MB
The present text is a rational analysis of the concept of the chemical bond by means of the principles of wave mechanics. The discussion of the material has been arranged so as to render its main content comprehensible for readers who may not have had pre"ious training in quantum mechanics. The text comprises three major parts. It begins with an exposition of the fundamental ideas. In this section the principles are reviewed from which de Broglie developed his mechanics; this allows the book to be read by chemistry majors and freshmen alike. However, we believe that it may also be of interest to university-and college teachers who must include certain aspects of quantum chemistry into their courses while being insufficiently familiar with the subject. It may even be of interest to science teachers in secondary schools. Finally, having been a witness to the evolution of these notions for over a quarter of a century, we present certain concepts from a particular point of view which might prove attractive to chemists of all kinds, perhaps even quantum chemists. The second, more technical part summarizes the methods of constructing wave functions that describe the electrons in molecules. This section can only be fully appreciated by those readers who are familiar with some aspects of the algorithms used in quantum mechanics.

Quarrel with the King: The Story of an English Family on the High Road to Civil War by Adam Nicolson
English | November 11, 2008 | ISBN: 0061154318, 0061154326 | True EPUB | 336 pages | 1.4 MB
Quarrel with the King tells the story of the first four earls of Pembroke, their wives, children, estates, tenants, and allies, following their high and glamorous trajectory from the 1520s through 1650-the most turbulent and dramatic years of English history-across three generations of change, ambition, resistance, and war. The Pembrokes were at the heart of it all: the richest family in England, with old blood and new drive, led as much by a succession of extraordinary women as by their husbands and sons.

It is also the story of a power struggle, over a long century, between the family and the growing strength of the English Crown. For decades, questions of loyalty simmered: Was government about agreement and respect, or authority and compulsion? What status did traditional rights have in a changing world? Did a national emergency mean those rights could be ignored or overturned? These were the issues that in 1642 would lead to a brutal civil war, the bloodiest conflict England has ever experienced, in which the earl of Pembroke-who had been loyal till then-had no choice but to rebel against a king who he felt had betrayed both him and his country.
At other times, the Pembrokes both threatened the Crown and acted as its bruisingly efficient and violent agents. They were ambivalent figures: flag bearers for an ancient England and time servers in some of the most corrupt courts England has ever known; fawning courtiers and indulgent landlords; puritanical aristocrats and rebel grandees. Nicolson's book amounts to a study in all the ambiguities involved in the exercise and maintenance of power and status.

David R. Bridgland, "Quaternary of the Trent"
English | ISBN: 1842174614 | 2014 | 416 pages | EPUB | 110 MB
This volume is an integrated overview and synthesis of available data relating to the Quaternary evolution of the River Trent. It provides detailed descriptions of the Pleistocene sedimentary records from the Trent, its tributaries and related drainage systems - a sedimentary record that spans a period of approximately half a million years - and the biostratigraphical and archaeological material preserved therein.

Significant new data are presented from recently discovered sites of geological and archaeological importance, including previously unrecognised fluvial deposits, as well as novel analyses, such as mathematical modelling of fluvial incision as recorded by the river terrace deposits. In combination with a thorough review of the literature on the Trent, these new data have contributed to revised chronostratigraphical and palaeogeographical frameworks for central England and revealed the complexity of the Pleistocene fluvial and glacial records in this region. The fragmentary Trent terrace sequence is an important element of wider reconstructions of Pleistocene palaeodrainage in Britain, providing a link between the records preserved in the English Midlands and those in East Anglia.

Queer and Feminist Relationships in Contemporary Fiction: Concepts, Practices, and Aesthetics in Romance Cultures
by Teresa Hiergeist, Alex Lachkar
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3837673421 | 253 Pages | True PDF | 4.8 MB

Relationships play a crucial role in feminist and queer fictions of the 21st century, whether we think of the connection among the artists and between them and their audience or the interaction of the characters or different modes of writing. The contributors to this volume analyze and map these friendly, amorous, sexual, political and artistic contacts within and around contemporary fictions of Romance cultures. They show how these works question, challenge and rethink circulating concepts of relationships and implement them aesthetically. This volume integrates contributions from feminist, queer and decolonial studies just as sociology of art.

Queer Soul and Queer Theology (Routledge New Critical Thinking in Religion, Theology and Biblical Studies) By Laurel C. Schneider, Thelathia Nikki Young
2021 | 142 Pages | ISBN: 0367820498 | EPUB | 1 MB
This book takes up the question of Christian queer theology and ethics through the contested lens of "redemption." Starting from the root infinitive "to deem," the authors argue that queer lives and struggles can illuminate and re-value the richness of embodied experience that is implied in Christian incarnational theology and ethics. Offering a set of virtues gleaned from contemporary lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, and asexual (LGBTIQA) lives and communities, this bookintroduces a new framework of ethical reasoning. Battered and wrongly condemned by life-denying theologies of redemption and dessicating ethics of virtue, this book asserts that the resilience, creativity, and epistemology manifesting in queer lives and communities are essential to a more generous and liberative Christian theology. In this book, queer "virtues" not only reveal and re-value queer soul but expose covert viciousness in the traditional (i.e., inherently colonial and racist, and thus ungodly) "family values" of dominant Christian ethics and theology. It argues that such re-imagining has redemptive potential for Christian life writ large, including the redemption of God.This book will be a key resource for scholars of queer theology and ethics as well as queer theory, gender and race studies, religious studies, and theology more generally.

John Walsh, "Queering Language Revitalisation: Navigating Identity and Inclusion among Queer Speakers of Minority Languages "
English | ISBN: 1009591029 | 2025 | 86 pages | PDF | 2 MB
This Element aims to deepen our understanding of how the fields of multilingualism, second language acquisition and minority language revitalisation have largely overlooked the question of queer sexual identities among speakers of the languages under study. Based on case studies of four languages experiencing differing degrees of minoritisation - Irish, Breton, Catalan and Welsh - it investigates how queer people navigate belonging within the binary of speakers/non-speakers of minoritised languages while also maintaining their queer identities. Furthermore, it analyses how minoritised languages are dealing linguistically with the growing need for 'gender-fair' or 'gender-neutral' language. The marginalisation of queer subjects in these strands of linguistics can be traced to the historical dominance of the Fishmanian model of 'Reversing Language Shift' (RLS), which assumed the importance of the deeply heteronormative model of 'intergenerational transmission' of language as fundamental to language revitalisation contexts.

Queering W. B. Yeats and Gabriele D'Annunzio: Modernist Playwrights By Zsuzsanna Balázs
2023 | 258 Pages | ISBN: 3031420683 | EPUB | 1 MB
Queering W. B. Yeats and Gabriele D'Annunzio: Modernist Playwrights challenges the general resistance in scholarship and queer studies to approach Yeats and D'Annunzio through a queer lens because of their controversial affiliations with fascism and elitism, their heterosexuality and their venerated canonical status. This book provides the first fully theorised queer and comparative reading of Yeats's and D'Annunzio's drama. It offers the novel contention that due to their increasing involvement in queer and feminist subcultures, their plays feature feelings that are associated with queer historiography and generate ideas that began to be theorised by queer studies more than half a century after the composition of the plays. Moreover, it uncovers an alert, subversive and often coded social commentary in eight key dramatic texts by each playwright and at the same time highlights the thus far neglected commonalities between the plays and the queer historical as well as cultural contexts of these two prominent modernists.

Questions Women Asked: Historical Issues, Timeless Answers By Simonetta Carr
2021 | 240 Pages | ISBN: 160178838X | EPUB | 1 MB
There are books about women in church history but they mostly focus on their lives, this book focuses on the questions they asked and shows why they are important now as they were then. The women included may not have had the benefit of a thorough theological training, but they meditated on Scripture and as a result their questions are smart, penetrating, and mostly universal. Simonetta's book will encourage you to reflect on these important issues and by delving into the treasures of God's Word will be able to raise your own questions and discuss them with others. God encourages such inquiries, and similar questions have often started a chain reaction, causing others (including us) to think better.Table of Contents: 1. Quiet Methodologies: Humility in the Humanities
by Suzanne Bost
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1517918200 | 170 Pages | True PDF | 1.94 MB

Reimagining humanities scholarship with humility and inclusive attention
How might foregrounding the writings of colonized peoples transform the ways we work in the humanities? In an era dominated by loud political rhetoric, Suzanne Bost advocates for quieter modes of scholarship: intellectual humility rather than ego, collaboration and conversation rather than singular argumentation, continual reflection and revision rather than defensiveness, and a willingness to believe in different ways of being and knowing rather than adhering to academic norms. With Quiet Methodologies, she demonstrates practical decolonial scholarship and proposes alternative approaches for fostering meaningful engagement.
Turning to feminist, queer, and decolonial writings from Gloria Anzaldúa, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Audre Lorde, and many others, Bost reflects on what we do when we work with literature, culture, and ideas. She weaves together multiple voices, methods of writing, and culturally diverse epistemologies and uses creative devices such as collage, her own original poetry, revision, lists, images, and conversation to disengage academic thought and writing from colonial theories and archives that have passed as neutral. Eschewing conventional monograph formats, her work embraces a reciprocal and heterogeneous learning process with profound ethical implications.
Part of a movement of reimagining research and education through care, Quiet Methodologies is a powerful exploration of the possibilities of criticism during crises. It encourages readers to be visionary and pragmatic, challenging current conditions and offering alternative ideas for the future of the humanities.

Rabbinic Scholarship in the Context of Late Antique Scholasticism: The Development of the Talmud Yerushalmi
by Catherine Hezser
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1350420980 | 357 Pages | True PDF | 6.43 MB

Based on an understanding of scholasticism as a cross-cultural phenomenon, undertaken by rabbinic, Graeco-Roman, and Christian scholars in late antiquity, this book examines the development of Palestinian rabbinic compilations from social-historical and literary-historical perspectives. The book focuses on the compilation of the Talmud Yerushalmi in the context of late antique scholarly practice aimed at preserving past knowledge for future generations. This book provides insight into how rabbinic scholarship in the Land of Israel participated in the wider intellectual practices of Roman-Byzantine times. Beginning with the social, educational, and legal contexts that generated rabbinic knowledge. Catherine Hezser goes on to investigate the oral and written transmission of rabbinic traditions to eventually examine the compilation of the Talmud Yerushalmi with a comparative and redaction-historical approach. Integrating Palestinian rabbinic education and scholarship into the context of late antique Graeco-Roman and Byzantine Christian scholarly practices, Catherine Hezser demonstrates how rabbinic compilatory techniques resembled but also differed from.those of Hellenistic, Roman, and Christian scholars. The book highlights how rabbinic compilations are idiosyncratic and create a distinct rabbinic identity. Overall, Hezser argues that rabbinic scholarship was an integral part of late antique intellectual life in the Near Middle East and should be recognized as an Eastern equivalent to Western, paideia-based forms of scholarship in the Roman-Byzantine period and beyond.

Bobby A. Wintermute, "Race and Gender in Modern Western Warfare"
English | ISBN: 3110477459 | 2018 | 417 pages | EPUB, PDF | 41 MB + 5 MB
"This work is not merely a trailblazer, but a pathfinder that successfully establishes race and gender as self-sustaining elements of analyzing the causes, nature, and effects of war making."

-Dennis E. Showalter, author of Instrument of War: The German Army 1914-1918
Race and Gender in Modern Western Warfare by David J. Ulbrich and Bobby A. Wintermute fills a longstanding gap in the historiographical and theoretical intersection of the fields of race, gender, and war. The book offers an introduction into how cultural constructions of identity are transformed by war and how they in turn influence the nature of military institutions and conflicts.

Racism (Key Ideas) By Anthony Moran
2023 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 1032212977 | EPUB | 1 MB
Racism has a long history and its devastating impacts continue to spark heated, moral and political debate and give rise to social movements and widespread protest. This accessible primer provides a cogent introduction to the study and confrontation of racism in the twenty-first century, making use of key insights from sociology and other social sciences. Drawing on a range of scholars, including from the radical black tradition and the Global South, this book explores key issues in racism studies. Putting racism into historical context, Moran explains the modernity of racism and its creation through European colonialism and imperialism, racial capitalism, and the development of racist hierarchies stimulated by colonialist exploitation as well as pseudoscientific and Enlightenment thinking centred upon white supremacy. Moran also discusses the intersectional, structural, institutional, and systemic nature of racism, and the connections between race, racism, and nationalism evident in the explosion of right-wing nationalist populism around the world. The book also investigates how the self and subjectivity are involved in racism and contribute to the reproduction of racism as a system before considering whether there are new, cultural forms of racism, and how we can account for Islamophobia and other racisms described as new, such as colour-blind racism, post-racial racism, and racism without racists. Crucially, the book explores antiracist social movements (such as Black Lives Matter) and how racism has been challenged and discusses accounts of race and racism can be given without reproducing the category of race as a natural' organiser of people, groups, and identities. This book will appeal to the general reader and students in the humanities and social sciences with an interesting in the continuing impact of racism, racial identities, migration, multiculturalism, ethnic and racial studies, nationalism, and identity studies.

Racism and the Weakness of Christian Identity: Religious Autoimmunity By David Kline
2020 | 340 Pages | ISBN: 036718527X | EPUB | 1 MB
Despite the command from Christ to love your neighbour, Western Christianity has continued to be afflicted by the evil of racism and the acts of violence that accompany it. Through a systems theoretical and deconstructive account of religion and the political theology of St. Paul, this book traces how the racism and violence of modern Western Christianity is a symptom of its failure to secure its own myth of sovereignty within a complex world of plurality. Divided into three sections, the book begins with a philosophical and critical account of what it calls the immune system of Christian identity. Focusing on Pauline political theology as reflective of an inherent religious "autoimmunity" built into Christian community, a theory of theological-political violence is located within Western Christianity. The second section traces major theoretical aspects of the historical "apparatus" of Christian Identity. It demonstrates that it is ultimately around the figure of the black slave that racialized Christian identity becomes a system of anti-blackness and white supremacy. The book concludes by offering strategies for thinking resistance against such racialised Christian identity. It does this by constructing a "pragmatics of faith" by engaging Deleuze's and Guattari's use of the term pragmatics, Moten's theory of black fugitivity, and Long's account of African American religious production. This wide-ranging and interdisciplinary view of Christianity's relationship to racism will be of keen interest to scholars of Religious Studies, Theological Studies, Cultural Studies, Critical Race Studies, American Studies, and Critical Theory.

Radical Elegies: White Violence, Patriarchy, and Necropoetics (Bloomsbury Studies in Critical Poetics) by Eleanor Perry
English | May 19, 2022 | ISBN: 1350236063, 1350236101 | True EPUB | 210 pages | 0.4 MB
Scholarship has traditionally characterized elegy as a Eurocentric tradition - a genealogy spanning from ancient Greek pastoral poems via the "English elegy" to English and Anglo-American Modernist contemporary poets. Perry examines how these genealogical constructions operate as a means of framing which guides interpretation.

This book argues that they reflect a necropoetics - a system of principles, precepts and techniques which serve to establish and maintain ideas about whose lives are worthy of being mourned publicly and whose losses matter. Examining elegies that challenge questions of whose deaths may be grieved; elegies which articulate the various ways in which certain lives are made precarious and disposable; and elegies which interrogate colonial violence, structures of white power, militarized forms of policing, prison-industrial and military-industrial complexes, Perry explores possibilities for radical new ways of understanding elegy beyond established genealogical frames.
This study retheorizes some basic terms of analysis of contemporary US poetry and poetics, critical race and ethnic studies, racial capitalism and contemporary theories of comparative and relational racialization.

Radical Inclusivity: Expanding Our Minds Beyond Dualistic Thinking (Shifts in Consciousness) By Jeff Carreira
2014 | 133 Pages | ISBN: 0615964915 | EPUB | 1 MB
We are the environment that we exist within. This book explores the experience of radical inclusivity - the direct recognition that everything is always included as part of a larger whole. Radical inclusivity opens a perceptual awareness that is grounded in non-separation, wholeness and continuity, and offers an essential antidote to many of the challenges that our world currently faces. This view offers the foundation for an ecological vision that can move us beyond an exclusively human perspective by demonstrating that we are one with everything. We are inseparable from the whole that surrounds us because we are that whole. We are the environment that we exist within. What happens to our surroundings is happening to us, and what happens to us, happens to everything around us. This potential shift in perspective offers a new way to think about who we are and how we affect the world around us. The writing style is personal, fluid, fast moving, and at times poetic because a new consciousness can only be articulated using words that point beyond their literal meaning. This book is meant to initiate an inquiry and inspire you to examine your own experience more deeply than you ever have before.
