Schimmelpfennig: Plays One By Roland Schimmelpfennig; David Tushingham
2015 | 253 Pages | ISBN: 1783190957 | EPUB | 1 MB
Roland Schimmelpfennig is the most performed contemporary German playwright. This collection demonstrates the breadth and formal innovation of his writing. The Animal Kingdom depicts the unremitting battle for human survival in a merciless environment: the theatre. Peggy Pickit Sees the Face of God has been likened to a post-colonial Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. Here two doctors who have returned from Africa reveal the true cost of their failure to combat a terrible and frightening disease. Idomeneus is a narrative play written for a large chorus which re-tells the classical Idomeneus myth in contemporary terms; a fractured, mythic tidal wave, brought to life with astounding theatricality by an ensemble of storytellers. A small narrative piece, The Four Points of the Compass is an urban fable of crossed destinies and uncanny coincidences and a compelling contemporary tale of lust for life and the fragility of existence.

Following the journey of Harrison and Katherine, Schism is about two people finding each other, and what happens when their dream becomes unrealistic and out of date. Schism received its world premiere at the Finborough Theatre, London, in April 2016.

Science and Spirituality By A. Ryan
2016 | 43 Pages | ISBN: 9996027015 | PDF | 1 MB
Science and Spirituality is an attempt to highlight the spiritual potential within the recent and on-going discoveries in both the science of the quantum world and the science of the larger cosmos. Science is now confirming what the mystics of former ages taught us. Somehow, these mystics, through silence and meditation, were able to discern and touch deep truths about what existence means. Abstract Algebra, which was once perceived as purely abstract with no practical application, is now at the heart of explaining existence within the quantum world. Thus mathematics, science and spirituality are just different faces of the same reality. This small booklet Science and Spirituality merely introduces different aspects of this one reality which the author hopes to develop in more detail in further booklets.

SEAL of God By Chad Williams; David Thomas
2012 | 178 Pages | ISBN: 1414368747 | EPUB | 1 MB
"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." -John 15:13. Just days before Chad Williams was scheduled to report for basic training at the Great Lakes naval base, he turned on the television and was greeted with the horrifying image of his mentor and training partner, US Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered in a premeditated ambush on the streets of Fallujah, Iraq. Steeled in his resolve, Chad committed himself to completing the US military's most difficult training to become a Navy SEAL-and avenge his friend's death. One of only thirteen out of a class of 173 to make it straight through to graduation, Chad went on to serve on SEAL Teams 1 and 7, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and finally Iraq. There, Chad's journey came full circle when his team was ambushed by enemy machine gunners-close to the same road where his hero had been killed five years earlier. SEAL of God follows Chad's extraordinary journey through twenty-five grueling weeks of BUD/S training and onto the hostile streets of Al Anbar Province, Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close. Along the way, Chad shares his own radical conversion story and discovers the true meaning of ultimate sacrifice.

Seamus Heaney : An Introduction By Richard Rankin Russell
2016 | 308 Pages | ISBN: 1474401651 | EPUB | 1 MB
The first detailed introduction to the entirety of Seamus Heaneyâe(tm)s work This study will enable readers to gain clearer understanding of the life and major works of Seamus Heaney. It considers literary influences on Heaney, ranging from English poets such as Wordsworth, Hughes, and Auden to Irish poets such as Kavanagh and Yeats to world poets such as Virgil and Dante. It shows how Heaney was closely attuned to poetry's impact on daily life and current events even as he articulated a convincing apologia for poetry's own life and integrity. Discussing Heaney's deep immersion in Irish Catholicism, this book demonstrates how faith influenced his belief system, poetry and politics. Finally, it also considers how deeply Heaney's artistic endeavours were intertwined with politics in Northern Ireland, especially through his embrace of constitutional nationalism but rejection of physical force republicanism. Key Features Includes sections on biography, historical, cultural and political contexts, poetry and other genres, as well as a concluding section on primary works and secondary criticism Pays special attention to the marriage of form and content in the poetry and how they work together to express subtle shades of meaning Offers close readings of Heaney's canonical poems throughout his career, including the early seminal poems such as Digging, the âe~bog poemsâe(tm), and his many elegies, such as Casualty, Station Island, and Clearances Draws on drafts of the poems and prose at the Heaney archives at Emory University and the National Library of Ireland

Searching for a Universal Ethic : Multidisciplinary, Ecumenical, and Interfaith Responses to the Catholic Natural Law Tradition By John Berkman; William C. Mattison
2014 | 277 Pages | ISBN: 1467442208 | EPUB | 1 MB
The best contemporary English-language resource on pursuing a universal ethics In this volume twenty-three major scholars comment on and critically evaluate In Search of a Universal Ethic, the 2009 document written by the International Theological Commission (ITC) of the Catholic Church. That historic document represents an official Church contribution both to a more adequate understanding of a universal ethic and to Catholicism's own tradition of reflection on natural law. The essays in this book reflect the ITC document's complementary emphases of dialogue across traditions (universal ethic) and reflection on broadly applicable ethical guidance within the Christian tradition (natural law). Among other things, the document situates the natural law ethical tradition within the larger search for a universal ethic. Along with its insightful essays, Searching for a Universal Ethic offers - for the first time in published form - the Vatican's official English translation of In Search of a Universal Ethic. Seasons of the Christian Life By Robert Cummings Neville
2016 | 192 Pages | ISBN: 1498286186 | EPUB | 1 MB
Once liberal Christianity was preached in ways that defined it in the public eye. Now Christianity is identified almost exclusively with its conservative expressions. Seasons of the Christian Life presents a series of sermons articulating a liberal Christianity over against its conservative neighbors. They were preached at the University Church (Marsh Chapel) at Boston University (save for one preached in Memorial Church at Harvard) during the 2004-2005 academic year when President George W. Bush was reelected and the country was at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and at war with terrorists wherever they could be imagined. The sermons follow the Revised Common Lectionary and focus on biblical interpretation as it is applied to the then-current spiritual, cultural, social, and political situation. The author is a professor of theology and at the time was Dean of Marsh Chapel and Chaplain of the University.

Secrecy, Covertness and Authentication in Wireless Communications: Physical Layer Security Approach (Wireless Networks) by Yulong Shen, Yuanyu Zhang, Xiaohong Jiang
English | October 17, 2023 | ISBN: 3031384644 | 376 pages | MOBI | 63 Mb
This book introduces the fundamentals of physical layer security (PLS) and demonstrates how a variety of PLS techniques can be applied to improve the security of wireless communication systems. In particular, this book covers three security aspects of wireless communications. It includes secrecy, i.e., preventing eavesdroppers from intercepting information from transmitted wireless signals, covertness, i.e., hiding the transmitted signals themselves from malicious wardens and authentication, i.e., authenticating the identities of communicating entities.

When discussing the secrecy of wireless communication systems, this book covers physical layer secure communication in multiple-input multiple-out (MIMO) systems based on beamforming and precoding techniques, in relay systems based on link/relay selection and in large-scale random networks based on cooperative jamming. Regarding the covertness of wireless communication systems, this book introduces physical layer covert communication in relaying systems and MIMO systems. Also, when discussing authentication in wireless communication systems, this book introduces the implementation of physical layer authentication in MIMO systems based on channel features and/or radiometric features of transceivers. In addition, this book presents security-aware routing in wireless networks based on physical layer secure communication techniques.
This book targets researchers in the fields of physical layer security and wireless communications security. Advanced-level students in electronic engineering or computer science studying these security topics will also want to purchase this book as a secondary textbook.

Secret Chamber Revisited: The Quest for the Lost Knowledge of Ancient Egypt by Robert Bauval
English | October 11, 2014 | ISBN: 1591431921 | 592 pages | PDF | 13 Mb
A firsthand, behind-the-scene account of the controversies surrounding modern explorations at Giza

* Investigates the recent scandals at Giza and claims of secret excavations and tunneling inside the Great Pyramid
* Reveals the historical evidence in support of secret chambers in the Great Pyramid and beneath the Great Sphinx
* Exposes the secret agendas behind the latest explorations on the Giza plateau
Since 1993 Robert Bauval has been embroiled in the many controversies involving the search for the lost treasures of the pyramid builders and the quest for the legendary Hall of Records of Atlantis. The strange but true story that he unfolds implicates American business moguls, the prestigious National Geographic Society, several Ivy League universities, the Edgar Cayce Foundation, the Freemasons, Christian fundamentalists, Zionists, and the Egyptian government.
In this fully updated edition of Secret Chamber, including new color photographs, Robert Bauval pursues his in-depth investigation of clandestine events at Giza and the role played by the controversial ex-Minister of Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass. What lies behind the mysterious doors at the end of the star shafts in the Great Pyramid? What do the mysterious inscriptions found behind the Gantenbrink door mean? What is the real purpose of the Relief Chambers and the red ochre "graffiti" in them? Who is behind the secretly tunneling and excavating in these chambers, and why? Is there really a hidden Hall of Records from Atlantis beneath the Great Sphinx? Is the Great Pyramid just a tomb or does it serve a higher purpose involving a lost science of immortality? Why do the ancient texts ascribe the Pyramid's design to the supreme god of wisdom Thoth, the writer of the fabled Books of Hermes? Will the Great Pyramid prove to be the "missing link" to our true origins or a "metaphysical machine" to access the world beyond?
Providing a firsthand account of the strange events that have taken place at the Giza plateau in the last three decades, Bauval reveals the hidden agendas behind these events and raises important questions about the meaning of Egypt's ancient structures and the very origins of civilization.

Secular Lyric : The Modernization of the Poem in Poe, Whitman, and Dickinson By John Michael
2018 | 265 Pages | ISBN: 0823279723 | EPUB | 1 MB
Secular Lyric interrogates the distinctively individual ways that Poe, Whitman, and Dickinson transformed classical, romantic, and early modern forms of lyric expression to address the developing conditions of Western modernity, especially the heterogeneity of believers and beliefs in an increasingly secular society. Analyzing historically and formally how these poets inscribed the pressures of the modern crowd in the text of their poems, John Michael shows how the masses appear in these poets' work as potential readers to be courted and resisted, often at the same time. Unlike their more conventional contemporaries, Poe, Whitman, and Dickinson resist advising, sermonizing or consoling their audiences. They resist most familiar senses of meaning as well. For them, the processes of signification in print rather than the communication of truths become central to poetry, which in turn becomes a characteristic of modern verse in the Western world. Poe, Whitman, and Dickinson, in idiosyncratic but related ways, each disrupt conventional expectations while foregrounding language's material density, thereby revealing both the potential and the limitations of art in the modern age.

Secularism and Biblical Studies By Roland Boer
2014 | 228 Pages | ISBN: 1845533755 | EPUB | 1 MB
What is secular biblical criticism? 'Secularism and Biblical Studies' presents a selection of essays that examine the nature of secular biblical studies and its hermeneutical principles. The essays outline and analyse debates within biblical studies over the issue of secularism and explore the interplay of atheism, agnosticism and faith in the interpretation of the Bible. The book argues for a hermeneutics of suspicion and a wider engagement with cultural, literary and anthropological disciplines. Examining biblical hermeneutics from a range of perspectives - from Europe, Israel and the USA - 'Secularism and Biblical Studies' offers a provocative and challenging approach that will be of interest to all students and scholars of the Bible.

Security, Risk and the Biometric State : Governing Borders and Bodies By Benjamin J. Muller
2010 | 161 Pages | ISBN: 0415484405 | EPUB | 1 MB
This book examines a series of questions associated with the increasing application and implications of biometrics in contemporary everyday life. In the wake of the events of 9/11, the reliance on increasingly sophisticated and invasive technologies across a burgeoning field of applications has accelerated, giving rise to the term 'biometric state'. This book explores how these 'virtual borders' are created and the effect they have upon the politics of citizenship and immigration, especially how they contribute to the treatment of citizens as suspects. Finally and most importantly, this text argues that the rationale of 'governing through risk' facilitates pre-emptory logics, a negligent attitude towards 'false positives', and an overall proliferation of borders and ubiquitous risk, which becomes integral to contemporary everyday life, far beyond the confined politics of national borders and frontiers. By focusing on specific sites, such as virtual borders in airports, trusted traveller programs like the NEXUS program and those delivered by airlines and supported by governmental authorities (TSA and CATSA respectively), this book raises critical questions about the emerging biometric state and its commitment and constitution vis-à-vis technology of 'governing through risk'. This book will be of interest to students of biopolitics, critical security, surveillance studies and International Relations in general. Benjamin J. Muller is assistant professor in International Relations at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, Canada. He completed his PhD in the School of Politics and International Studies at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 2005.

Seed Falling on Good Soil : Rooting Our Lives in the Parables of Jesus By Gordon W. King; Gary Nelson
2016 | 198 Pages | ISBN: 1498279368 | EPUB | 1 MB
Seed Falling on Good Soil is a unique book that combines a historically informed approach to Lucan parables with a critical understanding of social justice issues of our own age. The author proposes that the stories told by Jesus were narratives of resistance challenging audiences to participate in the personal and social transformation of God's kingdom. The author's experience in international community development provides a perspective rarely found among New Testament specialists. The book uses stories from the margins of our current world to connect the message of the parables with global issues of poverty, ethnic violence, gender discrimination, hunger and oppression. This book will appeal to people who long for the healing of a wounded world.

Seeking Shalom : The Journey to Right Relationship between Catholics and Jews By Philip A. Cunningham
2015 | 225 Pages | ISBN: 1467443840 | EPUB | 1 MB
The amazing, historic journey of Jews and Christians coming together. In this book Philip Cunningham traces the remarkable developments in Catholic-Jewish relations over the last fifty years. Centuries of antipathy and suspicion, Cunningham says, have largely given way to a new, mutually enriching relationship between the two traditions of Judaism and Catholicism. A specialist in Christian-Jewish relations, Cunningham recounts the amazing, historic journey of Jews and Christians coming together in light of both Scripture and theology, covering the period from Vatican II up to the present day. After fifty years of significant dialogue, Cunningham suggests, Catholics and Jews are now on the threshold of building true shalom between their two communities, experiencing the Holy One anew in each other's distinctive and edifying ways of walking with God.
