How to Talk with Anyone about Anything Workbook: A Guide to Practicing Safe Conversations by Harville Hendrix, Helen LaKelly Hunt
English | August 20th, 2024 | ISBN: 1400337518 | 224 pages | True EPUB | 0.52 MB
In this complementary workbook to How to Talk with Anyone about Anything, New York Times bestselling authors Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt give applicable tips on how to have Safe Conversations with everyone.

For centuries, our methods of communication have resulted in disagreement, which has led to frustration, anxiety, and anger. Conversations have become angry, anxious ones. We see polarization not only in our personal lives and work environment, but certainly in the political arena. Clearly, the world needs a new communication method so people can talk to each other successfully.
In the How to Talk with Anyone about Anything workbook, Harville and Helen share the wisdom of Safe Conversations and four skills that are structured and teachable:
* Dialogue: practice shifting from monologue to dialogue to foster safety and collaboration
* A commitment to zero negativity: convert frustrations into requests by focusing on what they should do, and not on what they shouldn't do
* Developing empathy for one another: shift from criticizing by accept one another's different perspectives
* Affirmations: transform conflict to connection by using "affirmation" more often in a relationship
How to Talk with Anyone about Anything offers the keys to unlocking your ability to communicate with others in a new and profoundly different way. And as more of us hone that ability, together, we can bring about a shift in society away from polarization and toward true connection.
This workbook is not a stand-alone product. How to Talk with Anyone about Anything is needed for the complete experience.

How to Train Your Dog with Love + Science: A Dog Lover's Guide to Animal Behavior and Positive Reinforcement Training by Annie Grossman
English | September 10th, 2024 | ISBN: 1728272793 | 352 pages | True EPUB | 0.93 MB
Finally: A dog training book that makes sense-for both dogs and humans-using positive reinforcement techniques based on animal behavioral science.

For generations, celebrity trainers have preached that dog owners must "dominate" dogs and have criticized people for daring to treat pets with affection.
How To Train Your Dog with Love + Science presents a modern and science-based approach to dog training, showing how behavior can be changed without coercion and force. Annie Grossman, a journalist-turned-dog trainer, breaks down what positive reinforcement actually is and makes the case that "good dog training" may even be a window into understanding ourselves.
Grossman offers building-block exercises and tips on how to train effectively using the reward-based methods she's honed over the last decade with clients at her Manhattan training center, School For The Dogs. Whether you've just brought a new dog into your home or you're wanting to teach an old one new tricks, How to Train Your Dog with Love + Science will help you consider what behaviors you want and help you to achieve your goals using techniques rooted in the science of behavior.
Woven into this lively how-to guide is the century-long history of positive reinforcement training, from Pavlov's dogs and Skinner's rats to today's apartment-dwelling dogs using Wifi-enabled devices.
By employing the easy-to-understand techniques laid out in this book, you will be able to train your dog to live confidently, comfortably, and happily in your world.

Hubris: The Origins of Russia's War Against Ukraine by Jonathan Haslam
English | September 12th, 2024 | ISBN: 1804548227 | 368 pages | True EPUB | 4.58 MB
On February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in an escalation of the Russo-Ukraine conflict that began eight years earlier. But the roots of the conflict began long before that historic date.

The roots of the Russo-Ukrainian War can be traced back through a sequence of events to the early 1990s that lead us not to Russia or Ukraine, but to the other side of the Atlantic. In 1994, the White House, under President Clinton, embarked upon the expansion of NATO, urged on by the new governments of Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary, who sought the security NATO could offer against Russia. Even at this early stage, the United States was secretly considering Ukraine for membership. When the likelihood of this emerged, President Putin of Russia made absolutely clear that this was a red line not to be crossed. But few expected the war that eventually came.
In Hubris, Jonathan Haslam, one of the world's greatest experts on Russian foreign policy and espionage, examines one of the most intractable issues of our time.

Hul! Hul!: The Suppression of the Santal Rebellion in Bengal, 1855 by Peter Stanley
English | April 1, 2022 | ISBN: 1787385426 | 328 pages | PDF | 13 Mb
If not for the famous Indian mutiny-rebellion of 1857, the Santal "Hul" (rebellion) of 1855 would today be remembered as the most serious uprising that the East India Company ever faced. Instead, this rebellion-to which 10 per cent of the Bengal Army's infantry was committed and in which at least 10,000 Santals died-has been forgotten. While its memory lived among Santals, British officers published little about it, and most of the sepoys involved died in 1857. In the words of one British officer, the Hul was "not war ... but execution", and perhaps thus was dismissed as unworthy of attention by military historians.

Drawing for the first time on the Bengal officers" voluminous reports on its suppression, Peter Stanley has produced the first comprehensive interpretation of the Hul, investigating why it occurred, how it was fought and why it ended as it did. Despite the Bengal Army virtually inventing counterinsurgency operations in the field (and the Santals improvising their first war), the Hul came to an end amid starvation and disease. But between its bloody outbreak, its protracted suppression and its far-reaching effects, Stanley demonstrates that the Hul was more than just "execution"-it was indeed a war.

Human First, Leader Second
by Massimo Backus

English | 2024 | ISBN: 1523007052 | 264 pages | True PDF EPUB | 8.94 MB

A self-compassion blueprint for leaders who are closed-off, constantly on the verge of burnout, and/or trapped in the myth of perfectionism.
Through this 6-step framework, leaders will learn that self-compassion is for the strong, to separate their title from their person, and how to care for themselves in order to care for others.

So many leadership and compassion books seek to remind leaders to behave human and treat those around them with care. But the truth is that leaders are human. They're not playing at being human or calling forth their humanity on demand. Their struggle in marrying leadership and compassion stems from leaders ignoring self-care-the lack of compassion toward their subordinates is just a symptom.
Human First, Leader Secondintroduces leaders to the practice of self-compassion through a 6-step framework designed to ease even the most hard-headed and hard-assed leaders into thoughtful, and productive, introspection.Backward: Biography, Biology, BackstoryForward: Purpose, Values, PrioritiesInward: Intentions, Feelings, ThoughtsOutward: Intent, Actions, BehaviorsLeeward: Self-care and Personal AccountabilityWayward: Regret and Self-forgiveness
Offering strategies for a personalized exploration of self-compassion-and what works best for the individual-this book will help leaders grow awareness to the importance of self-care while debunking the myth that compassion equals weakness. Regardless of our title or influence, we are all humans first, who need compassion.

Alan Bogg, "Human Rights at Work: Reimagining Employment Law"
English | ISBN: 1509938745 | 2024 | 384 pages | PDF | 5 MB
Should workers ever lose their job because of their political views or affiliations? Should female employees be entitled to wear a headscarf in the workplace for religious reasons? Can it ever be right for an employer to dismiss someone for personal activities undertaken in their leisure time? What restrictions, if any, should be placed on the right to strike ?

Engagingly written, this innovative new textbook provides an entry point for exploring these and other topical issues, enabling students to analyse the applicability of human rights to disputes between employers and workers in the UK. It offers an original perspective on the traditional topics of employment law as well as looking in greater depth at new issues, such as employees' use of social media or the enforcement of human rights in the gig economy.
Uniquely, the book considers the most important international Conventions that are relevant for the law in the UK, especially the European Convention on Human Rights, the European Social Charter, Conventions of the International Labour Organisation, and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
A central question that each of the chapters addresses is whether UK employment law is compatible with human rights law. Each chapter discusses all the key cases drawn from various jurisdictions, including the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.
Written by a stellar team of authors, this textbook is an invaluable teaching aid for both postgraduate and undergraduate students studying employment law, human rights, human resource management, and industrial relations.

Maeve Ryan, "Humanitarian Governance and the British Antislavery World System"
English | ISBN: 0300251394 | 2022 | 328 pages | PDF | 3 MB
How the suppression of the slave trade and the "disposal" of liberated Africans shaped the emergence of modern humanitarianism

Between 1808 and 1867, the British navy's Atlantic squadrons seized nearly two thousand slave ships, "re-capturing" almost two hundred thousand enslaved people and resettling them as liberated Africans across sites from Sierra Leone and Cape Colony to the West Indies, Brazil, Cuba, and beyond. In this wide-ranging study, Maeve Ryan explores the set of imperial experiments that took shape as British authorities sought to order and instrumentalise the liberated Africans, and examines the dual discourses of compassion and control that evolved around a people expected to repay the debt of their salvation. Ryan traces the ideas that shaped "disposal" policies towards liberated Africans, and the forms of resistance and accommodation that characterized their responses. This book demonstrates the impact of interventionist experiments on the lives of the liberated people, on the evolution of a British antislavery "world system," and on the emergence of modern understandings of refuge, asylum, and humanitarian governance.
